Senior Underwriter

Position Summary
This hire will replace the sole professional employee reporting to the Senior Vice President/Product Manager of the Financial Services department. The Senior Underwriter will be a key part in executing and administering the business plan. This applies both to open brokerage underwriting of a. Securities Brokers Dealers and b. Company Sponsored Insurance Agents Programs and c. to various professional liability programs.
Essential Functions
Relative to open brokerage business, underwrite and administrate renewal business.
As respects program business, to appropriately review, negotiate, and accept or decline risks and administrate same in a precise and timely manner.
Consistently manage current, relationships with brokers and clients. Some travel will be required.
To function as part of the entire professional liability "team." The "team" generally includes all members of the Professional Liability department, at all levels. It also includes all internal business partners - claims, actuarial, operations, finance and legal.
Utilize IT systems and for all management needs both internally (e.g., reporting) and external (e.g., loss evaluation.)
Develop and/or modify policy wordings.
Additional Responsibilities
Act in accordance with and be an advocate for the Aspen Spirit.
Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to include attainment of associated qualifications where required.
Ensure company, market and client related documentation is issued (internally and externally) accurately and on time where applicable.
Comply with external and internal regulatory and statutory policies, procedures and regulations.
Operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing in the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives.
Liaise with relevant and associated areas and groups within the business process to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organizational effectiveness.
Undertake any other duties of a similar nature that the company reasonably requests to be performed that are within the expertise and skills of the jobholder.
Education / Experience
College graduate - necessary. Graduate degree - preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years professional liability experience. Minimum of three (3) years underwriting experience.
Strong knowledge of professional liability and coverage and technically proficient.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
