Family Peer Specialist

About The Position
We are currently seeking a dynamic Family Peer Specialist to join our team at our office in Rocky Hill, CT! The Family Peer Specialist shall provide family support; help families create a support network; do outreach; promote recovery and resilience by knowing how to share their own story and by being a role model helping to promote hope, skill development, strength, stability and safety; help set vocational and social goals; share coping skills and "tips" for families on how to manage difficult behaviors, providing training on negotiating the system and other topics of interest to families, teach self-advocacy skills; organize natural supports for families in crisis, help ease transitions upon return home after hospitalization; provide information to providers on family perspectives; and outreach to family organizations and the community at large.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide telephone and face to face support to members and families to offer support and information on resources available.
Assist members who may need help navigating the system, filling out applications (i.e. Voluntary Services, SSI, and System of Care), explaining member rights, locating non-traditional supports, dealing with feelings of shame, guilt, overwhelming stress, and learning about self-advocacy skills.
Collaborate with the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Social Services as necessary to support members.
Build, develop and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with providers and adult consumer and family organizations by establishing a local presence via telephone interactions and by attending meetings.
Outreach to, and work with family and adult consumer advocacy groups across the state
Provide technical assistance to adult consumer and family groups, as well as Community Collaborative.
Maintain a regionally assigned caseload while meeting all documentation expectations.
Position Requirements:
Relevant Work Experience: Family member or former family member or adult consumer/former adult consumer. Experience working in the educational or community system with Behavioral Health populations. 2-3 years' experience serving as an advocate to families or individuals within the behavioral health service delivery system. Knowledge of community outreach and education preferred. Bilingual preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comfortable with being out in the community and meeting with members/families face to face in their homes, or other community locations.
Strong computer and typing skills.
Strong communication skills and time management skills.
Reliable transportation and current CT driver's license.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
